Intro to Music Theory in preparation for AP is available as a group class.

Intro to AP Music Theory
Want to add an AP test to your list? Have some knowledge toward music but want to further your understanding?
Take Introduction to Music Theory, where you can deepen your knowledge for the basics of music theory such as key signatures, relative keys, chord qualities and inversions, and form. Joy will help build the fundamental music theory knowledge needed to be prepared for the AP test, as well as the skills to analyze written music.
For those interested in taking the Music Theory test in 2020, Joy will offer a discounted week-long intense study course with practice tests in April.
Enlighten Children in Music
Enroll your children in a group class learn music through play. Children will learn and practice fundamental music skills that will help develop musical awareness. This includes being aware and sensitive about the music they make as well as the music they hear, which can result in singing strongly in tune, singing well in parts, and listening well. This course will also introduce reading music to children based on the skills children already have.
How long? 1 hour each day
For whom? Kids age 7 to 9.
Guitar, Ukulele, and Voice lessons
Have little or no musical background but would like to pick up some musical skills? Taken classical music instrument lessons but want to learn in the modern style?
Joy can teach in different vocal styles for singing as well as acoustic guitar styles and ukulele for any age. Between voice and guitar/ukulele, Joy can train students in ear training and beginner improvisation.
If you are interested, there is no musical background or training is required for lessons, but ownership of a guitar or ukulele is recommended if interested.
Classes will be $50/hour and will either be at Springlight Education or can be at your own home.
Joy Tang is a Music Education major with a voice concentration at Gordon College in Massachusetts. She has been singing and playing the guitar since middle school, and has been classically trained in voice since 2014. Joy has been singing since the 6th grade with choir and made the ACDA Regional Honor Choir all four years in high school and All-State three years in high school. Joy started the acoustic guitar in 2011 and began playing with various worship teams for church in 2013 for children's Sunday school, youth group, and the main sanctuary. This past year, Joy has been in multiple teaching positions, from teaching a 2nd grade class to being a TA for her college's music theory course, where she tutored and held review sessions. After this summer, she has one semester of classes before she begins her student teaching internship in Massachusetts, which will conclude her certification process as a music teacher.
