This summer, explore the world of Artificial Intelligence at Springlight with guidance from Machine Learning Engineers from Google.

The Springlight Summer AI Program is an 8-week, interactive online experience where high school students gain real-world exposure to Artificial Intelligence—learning directly from three Google ML engineers. From foundational concepts to advanced applications, participants will build the skills to think critically about technology, apply AI tools creatively, and complete a hands-on project that reflects their unique interests.

 What You’ll Learn Week by Week

Weeks 1–2: Foundations of AI

  • Explore machine learning, neural networks, and large language models
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions for project ideas

Week 3: Real-World Applications of AI

Instructors

Emma Freeman is a Learning Portfolio Manager and Professional ML Engineer at Google Cloud specializing in AI/ML. Her experience includes technical curriculum development at Databricks and Senior data scientist roles at several companies, as well as teaching Python and Data Science courses. Emma holds a Master's in Environmental Science and enjoys surfing, dancing, and spending time in Brazil.

Mahama Nyankamawu is a Professional Machine Learning Engineer and Program Manager at Google, where he leverages his technical expertise to drive impactful projects. Outside of work, Mahama is an executive leadership coach who mentors many high school students. For the past eight years, he has also shared his passion for mathematics as a tutor at Springlight. In his free time, Mahama enjoys swimming, dancing, and delving into philosophical discussions.

Shashank Bharadwaj is a Software Engineer at Google with over a decade of experience in app development across various devices. He currently contributes to some of Google's most impactful AI innovations, having also built scalable solutions for Google Home/Nest products in recent years. Outside of work, Shashank organizes 'South Bay Generative AI', one of Silicon Valley's largest meetups, and is also an avid dancer.
